Two people were killed in a single truck crash in Texas on Sunday morning

The accident happened on February 27th in Abilene, Texas just before 8 a.m.

According to Big Country Homepage, a semi truck was heading east on Interstate 20 at mile marker 286 when it suddenly veered into the center median, narrowly avoiding an oncoming car, and struck a pillar head on at FM 600. The semi truck exploded on impact, and neither the truck driver nor their passenger were able to escape. Both were pronounced dead on scene.

The Texas Department of Transportation says that minor damage was done to the columns and beams of the bridge, but that engineers have determined that the stretch of road is safe to reopen. Both westbound and eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 under the bridge have been reopened. Clearance signs were charred in the flames and will need to be replaced and the asphalt at the site of the crash will need to be restriped.

The investigation into the crash is still underway. The truck driver and their passenger have not been  publicly identified.
