In the downtown core, the east side of 109 Street south of Jasper Avenue to the Alberta legislature grounds and the High Level Bridge was lined by hundreds of people as trucks drove by honking horns. A tent has been set up on the nearby plaza in front of the federal building.
Today’s convoys are an extension of protests happening at the Alberta-Montana border in Coutts and in Ottawa, to where ‘Freedom Convoy’ protestors converged a week ago. Last Saturday in Edmonton, a similar convoy saw hundreds of people head to the legislature to protest COVID-19 restrictions.
The convoy protests come in response to the federal government’s move to require that all Canadian truck drivers crossing the U.S. border be fully vaccinated.
