Tow Truck Drivers Busy With Hundreds Of Calls After Winter Weather – News On 6

AAA said it’s received more than 600 calls for roadside rescues after Friday morning’s snow. After the snow melted, tow truck drivers were sent out in the cold to pull cars out of ditches and off the sides of highways. Tulsa AAA crews said it made for a busy day, but it’s nothing they weren’t prepared for.

Tow truck driver Doug Hyder said he helped several people on Friday.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to help people and have the ability to get them going again,” he said.

AAA Spokeswoman Leslie Gamble said this morning’s snow led to hundreds more calls for roadside assistance than either of the last two storms.

“Last time we had the storm, at this same point in the day, we had 100 fewer calls,” Gamble said.

Gamble believes drivers underestimated road conditions and took a risk going to work.

About half of the calls were for other assistance like dead batteries or flat tires – but that still means hundreds of drivers in Oklahoma were left waiting for people like Hyder to help.
