The current supply chain issues didn’t impact Mount Vernon’s ability to plow the roads during Friday’s snowstorm, but it did hinder efforts to get more updated trucks.

Some of the plow trucks in Mount Vernon’s fleet are about 20 years old. The city used part of its funding from the American Rescue Plan to purchase four large trucks and six smaller ones. However, one of the larger trucks has yet to arrive due to the supply chain problems.

Mayor Shawn Patterson-Howard says although crews handled the storm, she’s concerned about future storms if the new trucks don’t arrive.

“If we were to have more storms like this back to back, the old equipment is going to give way,” says Patterson-Howard.

The Department of Public Works commissioner says the new trucks are expected by the end of February or even as late as March.
