SWEETWATER — Both lanes of Interstate 20 in west Sweetwater at the Robert Lee Street overpass have been closed and traffic diverted after a Friday morning truck crash.
Eastbound and westbound traffic will be diverted from the highway into Sunday, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
A semi and its trailer traveling east on I-20 about 2:30 a.m. Friday collided with the west support column of the overpass near mile marker 243. The column was damaged and the interstate closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic, with vehicles diverted to frontage roads.
Traffic can re-enter the interstate past the crash site.
Repairs are being made to the bridge this weekend.
TxDOT recommends motorists find alternate routes or expect delays in travel in this area.
No information was given by TxDOT on the cause of the wreck or condition of the semi occupant(s). Department of Public Safety spokesman Fred Biddle said he had not been informed of any fatalities or injuries.
